Project 3: The Proactive Information Society

By: Stephanie Kate Bagtong

Indeed communication is a very significant thing to represent us into unlimited opportunities and careers. Which Dr. Alexander G. Flor emphasized that the 'develompent communication' applies in different communication-related career that intertwined us as Communication Students to be only suitable for the profession in the industry of media and advertising and opens outside this field a lot more opportunities.

Meanwhile, according to Dr. Flor's The Proactive Information Society in 1983, Philippines became the sixth largest food in the world in year 2006, that jumped into 15th place. "In the year 2001 AD, the Philippines became the sixth largest food producer in the world. It has jumped from 15th place (1980 FAO figures) to this position as an outcome of the MUAR computer model developed in 1989 by a multi-disciplinary team of agriculturists, economists, scientists and dev com specialists from UPLB."

Due to lack of technology and other mechanism to produce Philippines loosen its track to export such. Which Dr. Flor envisioned this to happen. But through time, as well the communication is evolving and expanding, Philippines in 1983 begun to loosen its economic growth that turns into crisis and failure to agriculture. As what Dr. Flor has said in one of his article. Which he envisioned too that Philippines has more to offer and believed it can risen again.

As do I believed, Dr. Flor wants only to indicate 'develompent communication' in the curriculum to enhance our characteristics to be a good communicator. If possessed, by marketing and advertising practice to fulfill our certain objectives to convince people to buy the product by its feature, advantages and benefits.

While on the other hand Dr. Flor also acknowledged the statistical data error of agricultural resources that causes the wastage. "With a reasonable margin of error due to stochastic variables, the model produced information which optimized agricultural production at the macro-level with due consideration given to the required agricultural inputs, the local and international marketing system; higher order impacts of prescribed agricultural practices; wastage, storage, preservation and other post-harvest considerations; consumption patterns; and others." Which Philippines is an agricultural country in the beginning.

Also, Dr. Flor mentioned some countries with a great economic stability such as Japan, Taiwan and Singapore. Means these are the country that according to him affects the country to achieved a certain degree of income. Hence, year 1983 before its drastic years of economic breakdown. Philippines stand-alone along with the aforementioned neighbor countries, which former Pres. Ferdinand Marcos make the Philippines elite at the time of his term to export and import commodity. With all this things Philippines is quite dependent after all.

Moreover, According in his 4th paragraph. Dr. Flor emphasized the computer literacy that has increased only among the well to-do. A widespreading gap between the information-poor and information-rich, a problem that currently facing by the newly created Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC). This is prolly formidable to adapt since our country is agricultural and not a fast moving country when it comes to advancement and technology. But somehow, this could be the most useful tool in terms of seeking a better quality technological life. In order to catch up today is through technology more people depends their life on it, but how the rural people who can't achieve into a technological world. Some may not afford to have it and/or some may live on how they want to.

"In Metro Manila, more and more employees no longer report to their offices but instead work at home on their computer workstations, terminals connected to their main frame office computers via a time-sharing system. The immediate effect of this is the dwindling in the number of commuters, the decongestion of the streets of Manila, and, most favorably, the reduced consumption of oil." As per Dr. Flor, which is veritable that along in his article 30 years ago, as the result of the advancement of the 21st century which nowadays amidst of pandemic most of the people worked from their homes instead. That aftermath into decongestions of ways in Metro Manila, depleted number of commuters and reduced consumption of oil which is definitely a help in the economic growth also in nature.

This examples above-mentioned only portray that Dr. Alexander G. Flor's article about curriculum that instills proactive way of actualizing the environment future will be the starting point for any communication graduate. Jn order to elevate each passion. Being an aspiring communicator we can aim to have the power to change, persuade, establish and influence to change a community or even a nation.

And I do believed, resources are not only for those rich because development communication is dynamic, it has continuous process and unending transformation that we can entail a good knowledge.

At last, I do agree with Dr. Flor's said about his idea on what a communication curriculum should consist of. Having 'develompent communication' is indeed a idealistic resources to obtain success in producing an ideal communication professionals for it to focus on more in advertising, marketing also in development communication to empower its creativeness in facing problem, create more engagement and initiative in any contingency.

As I end this I do believed that we future and communicator we can make change, extricate and wryly do things with our voices and passion.
